FAQ

  • Check out Rosemary’s Legacy and read about its impact on some of our invited writers.

  • We seek individuals who bring a unique voice to their writing. Our ideal applicants are those who articulate detailed reasons for wanting to join our retreat, demonstrating a strong motivation to grow and develop as writers. We value those who have experimented across different genres or mediums, showing a willingness to explore and expand their creative boundaries.

Curiosity is a key trait we admire. This retreat is more than a place to write; it's a community where learning, sharing, and mutual growth are fundamental.

We encourage applicants who are not just looking for a space to write but are eager to be part of a dynamic, supportive community. Our residency is designed for those who are committed to their craft and are ready to engage with fellow writers in a collaborative and enriching environment.

Within the community we cultivate, we value a diversity of styles, life experiences, areas of interest, and perspectives.

  • Yes, you can apply to multiple workshops. We will ask you to list your selections in order of preference on your application. In the rare case that you are admitted to multiple workshops, you would be able to attend for two consecutive weeks.

  • Rosemary’s House is excited to be offering a generative residency this cycle. This week will differ from our other programming, as it will feature daily generative seminars, rather than daily workshops. Writers will not have their work critiqued, but will instead be invited to jumpstart their imaginations and unlock new entryways to writing. If you are in an early stage of a project or looking to spend a week revitalizing your creative practice, we recommend that you apply for our generator residency. This year’s theme is the healer’s journey. Whether you are interested in exploring the theme of healing in your work or are inspired to approach writing as a mode of healing, we invite you to apply and are open to applications of all genres and mediums.

  • This individualized residency will feature more uninterrupted writing time and more structured critique and teaching. In the style of an Oxbridge one-term tutorial, Sally will review up to 10,000 words from a larger project and meet one-on-one with writers helping them refine their craft and develop the architecture of their story. This residency will feature 4-5 hours of one-on-one teaching, and writer will have the opportunity to interact with their cohort and their paired cohort in social hours.

  • Absolutely! We coordinate transportation to and from the airport, and this transfer is included in the cost of tuition.

  • Our team has worked hard to ensure that our tuition and lodging are truly all-inclusive, catering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and including all activities. We can liase with our local hotel partners to book treatments at their spa. External bookings like these or solo dinner reservations would be out of pocket, as they don’t fall within our residency’s programming.

  • We will ask all attending writers to submit a piece or excerpt that they would look like to be reviewed by the guest fellow and the group, two months before the start date of the residency. If you do not submit something for review, we will forego your workshop slot. After submitting your work, we ask that you read and reflect on the work of the other attending writers. Each guest fellow will also assign one book or piece of media for everyone in the cohort to enjoy before attending. Upon arriving at Rosemary’s House, you will receive a printed copy of everyone’s submissions.

  • As soon as possible! Our admissions office accepts on a rolling basis, so we cannot guarantee that spots will remain open.

We require that all accepted writers undergo a background check and mandate that all participants sign and adhere to a code of conduct. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination of any kind.

  • We are excited to announce three internal scholarships for our 2024 programming. One will be a full tuition scholarship and two will be for a value of €1995. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of both merit and need. If you wish to be considered for an internal scholarship, we ask that you submit your most recent tax return for proof of low-income status with your application. If you do this, please redact your SSN from the form. We will also ask you to submit a letter of recommendation with your application. Our deadline for scholarship applications is April 15th. If you do not meet low-income qualifications but still need external funding, Rosemary’s House offers endorsement for external scholarships immediately upon acceptance. Last year, we worked with over 18% of our students to help them secure external funding. For accepted attending writers who are professional videographers or photographers, we can offer a € 500 scholarship credit towards tuition for those willing to document their residency.
